This is an Edwardian replica of the 8th century Ardagh Chalice made in Dublin in 1909-1910 and possibly commissioned for a Belfast parish. It carries the marks of Sharman D Neill, a retailer in Belfast. This replica is a further example of the dominance of Celtic Revival design in silver at the beginning of the twentieth century. The original Ardagh Chalice can be seen in the National Museum of Ireland in Dublin.
