This silver and bronze crucifix was made in Russia in the nineteenth century. The figure of Christ is modelled in bronze and the cross is engraved and pierced silver contained in the original leather case. The crucifix was once owned by Felix Yusupov, a member of the group of aristocrats who took part in the assassination of Grigory Efimovich Rasputin in 1916. Rasputin acted as a close adviser to Tsar Nicolas II and most especially his wife, the Tsarina Alexandra. The Yusupov Crucifix is a bequest of Anne Hull Grundy, an art historian and collector, in honour of her husband, John Hull Grundy.
