Silver Sounds

Reinterpreting Queen's University's Silver Collection

Bryan Jacobs

Bryan Jacobs is currently studying for a Master's degree in music composition at McGill University in Montréal, Canada. His acoustic and electro acoustic compositions have earned him national and international awards and scholarships and they have been performed by world renowned ensembles such as the Cleveland Chamber Symphony and The Greg Smith Singers.

His piece for Silver Sounds is a comment on the original use of the mace, and how the object has been appropriated as a symbol of power. Using the human voice he aims to evoke the emotions and narratives associated with the mace as a mediaeval weapon and as a ceremonial object.
