Suk-Jun Kim is a composer of both electro acoustic and acoustic media. Kim studied theology at Yonsei University in South Korea before attending the Ontario Institute of Audio and Recording Technology in Canada. He is currently a doctoral fellow at the University of Florida.
Kim's music has been performed worldwide and recent commissions include the 2006 World Cup in Germany and a SpACE-Net First Commission in the UK.
Suk-Jun Kim's piece starts with a response to a single tap on this Irish silver chalice. His first impression was of immediacy of the texture of the silver and he responds to the material object rather than to its historical and cultural associations, using the physicality of the chalice to create a distinctive sound world.
