Johnathan F Lee is an American digital sound artist and composer living in Tokyo, where he is Assistant Professor in the Department of Media Arts at Tamagawa University. He received a doctorate in music composition from Columbia University and has worked on numerous research and software development projects at various institutions worldwide.
His compositions encompass a variety of styles and formats, both instrumental and electro acoustic. He enjoys collaborating with other artists such as choreographers and visual artists.
As in much of Lee's work, he aims to explore a network of veiled references and associations from a personal context. As a point of departure for this work, entitled 'Concatenated Spheres Obscured', Lee explores themes of exoticism and fantasy, and their relationship to one's own cultural perspective and experience.
