Pedro Rebelo was born in Portugal and studied at the University of Edinburgh. He is currently Director of Research at SARC, the Sonic Arts Research Centre at Queen's. Working in electro acoustic music, digital media and installation, he uses improvisation in his composition and has been involved in many interdisciplinary and collaborative projects.
The Yusupov Crucifix is entangled in the mysterious circumstances surrounding Grigory Rasputin's assassination. Rebelo's composition reflects the paradoxical qualities of the infamous Rasputin and the circumstances of his assassination. The sacred and the pagan are represented here by quotations of Russian Orthodox chanting and Gypsy guitar music.
